YOU'VE got to give it to the Shire of Toodyay; its generosity with ratepayers'
money knows no bounds!
While it takes with one hand, either suing businesses for trying to operate
or making them make double applications for signage (see front page) on top
of normal council rates, etc., it gives with the other.
In 'Inside Cover' of The West Australian on Tuesday, 15th December, the Shire of Toodyay was
outed for giving away its logo. Yes, the lovely windmilly thingy with the orange dot and the ribbons that look
a bit like water has been given away - to Lubbock, Texas. The story first appeared
on a website called
'Brand New', a site which is involved in the advertising industry to look at corporate logos and such.
To cut a long story short, it seems that the city of Lubbock, Texas, a
small town of just 212,365 souls, has a lot of windmills and needed a new logo. Toodyay has a windmill in its logo
so the Lubbock Council just asked if they could have Toodyay's - and Toodyay, through its
Manager Community Services, Annique Gray, said, "Yes!"
So, if you need a logo (and don't really care what it looks like), ask the Shire of Toodyay. Chances
are they'll just give one to you.

The logo before being stripped of its Toodyay-ness!

Do You Like This Logo?

If your town is currently looking for its own,
original logo and is too cheap to pay a designer, check this out:
This Logo Features:
Sky
Sun
A generic sort of building shape thing
Green (maybe grass or crops?)
Blue sort of watery shape
All squashed into a sort of top hat shape (what that means, we've no idea)
If your town has any of these, this one's for you.
